Pupillage Vacancy Information
All money in excess of their monthly pupillage award goes straight to the pupil subject to a small levy. There will be a clerk assigned to them as point of contact and be responsible for their billing. Chambers also has a designated fees clerk if there are any issues with fees which needs to be resolved.
Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Chambers were amongst the founding members of Bar None. We actively seek to recruit pupils from a range of backgrounds and circumstances. We have a number of Counsel and staff from a range of backgrounds who will always be available if required. On a monthly basis our clerks carry out an analysis to ensure a fair and equal distribution of work to pupils. This is available on request.
How to Apply
Applications can be made via the Chambers website [www.12cp.co.uk] going to About Us > Join Us > Pupillage. The marking scheme and other details of the process can be found at the top of the application form.
About AETO and Structure of Pupillage
12CP is a friendly, successful and growing set based in Southampton.
Chambers offers up to two pupillage places every year, commencing in October. Pupils in First Six will spend three months with a criminal or regulatory practitioner, and three months with a housing, civil or employment barrister. This enables them to be exposed to all areas of Chambers work over the course of the six months. In Second Six, pupils can expect to be busy working on their own cases.
Any Other Relevant Information
We will consider your academic qualifications (not limited to traditional routes), ability to work hard, manage time effectively, and your ability to express themselves clearly, concisely and accurately. 12CP Barristers is committed to promoting access to the profession based upon ability, and encourages applications from those who have historically been underrepresented at the Bar.
In the First Round, successful applicants will be invited to attend a short (15-20 minute) interview over Teams or Zoom. Those that are invited back for Second Round interviews will complete a piece of written work in the interim and then attend Chambers to conduct an advocacy exercise and further interview.
