Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation
2 New Street Chambers is an award-winning set that has been at the heart of Leicester's legal community for over a century. A friendly and welcoming set with a reputation for excellence in both family and civil law, Chambers is committed to ensuring that pupils receive training of the highest standard. Successful pupils can expect the opportunity to build a varied and busy practice in the East Midlands.

Structure of Pupillage
12 months. During their first six, pupils will spend much of their time with their pupil supervisor who they will accompany to court and to conferences, but will also spend time with other members of Chambers to ensure exposure to the full breadth of practice areas available within Chambers. In their second six, pupils will begin to undertake their own work but will continue to have the opportunity to assist and observe other members of Chambers, workload permitting.

Pupils will be closely supported throughout pupillage and their progress monitored by their supervisor, who will offer formal feedback by way of two-monthly reviews and informal continuous feedback. In addition to the pupil's supervisor, there will be at least two other members of Chambers who have undertaken pupil supervisor training available to support the pupil's development. Pupils will be expected to undertake all mandatory training prescribed by the Bar Standards Board and will be supported to do so, with their supervisor ensuring that the Pupillage Checklist is completed.

Financial and Other Support Available
Pupils will in their first six receive a pupillage award of £2,000 per month, in addition to reasonable travel expenses when required to travel to court or to undertake mandatory training. In their second six, pupils will benefit from guaranteed receipts of £2,500 per month.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Chambers is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. Reasonable adjustments will be made to ameliorate any difficulties faced by disabled persons working in Chambers. Any applicant likely to require reasonable adjustments should inform Chambers' Diversity Officer, Mr Andrew Horner, by email at andrewhorner@2newstreet.co.uk.
