Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation

We are an ambitious and leading set of civil and commercial barristers.  Our people are hard-working, forward-thinking and approachable. The set comprises around 60 barristers, of whom 16 are King’s Counsel. We know each other well and work together effectively, often operating in large teams with clients. We believe our supportive culture is one of our greatest strengths.

We are experienced advocates, appearing in courts and arbitral tribunals at all levels throughout the UK and overseas. Many of us are at the forefront of shaping the law in our specialist areas and we pride ourselves in having outstanding industry knowledge across a range of sectors. We offer advice in an informed and commercial context.

Our barristers enjoy varied practices across the full spectrum of commercial, insurance, employment and common law. The breadth of work we offer enables our members to develop their own practices to suit their interests and personality in a way that those at other more specialist sets cannot. This variety provides early autonomy and regular ‘on feet’ experience in some practice areas, while other areas offer the opportunity to work as a team, with leading King’s Counsel.

We find that diverse work makes for skilled and well-rounded barristers.

Work with an international dimension forms a significant part of many barristers’ practices at 2TG. We appear in international litigation and arbitration, frequently acting on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. We are particularly well-known for managing cross border litigation raising matters of conflict of laws, appearing regularly in landmark cases in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

We are committed to delivering outstanding service to clients and attaining the highest levels of professionalism. Our reputation for excellence in everything we do is of utmost importance to us.

All our Silks and the vast majority of our Junior barristers are recognised as leaders in their chosen fields - we are recommended in the two leading legal directories for our work across a large number of practice areas and our barristers have over 200 individual rankings for their expertise.

Structure of Pupillage
At 2TG, you will sit with three different pupil supervisors over the course of the pupillage year. This will give you an opportunity to experience a range of different work. You will also have the chance to work for other members of Chambers, including some of our leading Silks.

You are also given the opportunity to build your own practice from a very early stage. Our pupils are given cases of their own at the start of the Second Six of the pupillage year.
2TG prides itself on its friendly and supportive environment, and so we provide in house advocacy training for all our pupils. We also provide a range of other training for pupils, including a full induction. Additionally, when you start taking on your own cases you can count on your pupil supervisors and Chambers’ junior tenants to help you prepare for your very first cases in Court.

Our record for taking pupils on as tenants is excellent. This is because we will only make you an offer of pupillage if we believe that you will make a great addition to 2TG.

2TG also operates a mentoring scheme during pupillage. At the start of your pupillage year, you will be assigned a mentor who will be able to answer any queries you may wish to raise confidentially, as well as providing pastoral support.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion
2TG is committed to promoting equality and diversity in relation to the recruitment and treatment of pupils, tenants and staff and the provision of services to clients, in accordance with the Equality and Diversity Rules in the Bar Standards Board Handbook and the Equality Act 2010.
Members and staff attend Bar Council training sessions at the Bar Council, as well as regular in-house sessions also conducted by the Bar Council.
In accordance with the Bar Standards Boards equality rules, members and staff are given the opportunity to provide diversity data in order for Chambers to publish an anonymous summary of such data.
Our diversity data can be found on our website, and we publish an updated summary of the data every 3 years.
The contribution of a number of our barristers has been recognised at award events for the legal profession in relation to commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Caroline Harrison KC and Rehana Azib KC were shortlisted for their contribution to diversity at the Chambers Bar Awards in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Rehana Azib KC won the title of ‘Barrister of the Year’ at the Next 100 Years Inspirational Women in Law Awards 2021. The Inspirational Women in Law Awards recognises individuals from across the legal profession who are leading the way in improving equality and diversity.
