Pupillage Vacancy Information
About Authorised and Education Training Organisation | 23ES is one of the largest and most respected Chambers with a national presence in both Commercial and Chancery law (Business & Property team) and Crime. We are offering one pupillage with our Business & Property team in Manchester, commencing in the Autumn of 2026.
Our leading Business & Property team prides itself on its collaborative and accessible approach to working with its solicitors and clients. Its members advise and represent parties across the broad spectrum of Commercial and Chancery matters before all Courts and Tribunals, from the County Court to the Supreme Court. The team’s work spans commercial litigation, company, partnership, employment, insolvency, property, wills, probate and trusts law.
Chambers seeks to recruit junior tenants from amongst our own pupils and pupillage is offered with a view to tenancy.

Structure of Pupillage | Pupils will generally have one pupil supervisor for the duration of their pupillage. Pupils will have the opportunity to observe the full range of the team’s practice areas through attending Court and other Tribunals with various members of the team. Likewise, pupils will be expected to undertake drafting work for other members of the team, which will provide plenty of opportunity to refine drafting skills and acquire knowledge in all areas of practice.
The Business & Property team runs a compulsory in-house advocacy training course throughout the year. The training culminates in a mock trial at a Crown Court, judged by a Circuit Judge, in which our Commercial / Chancery pupil will participate alongside their Criminal counterparts. Members of Chambers will act as witnesses and jurors. Each pupil is given advice and feedback. Chambers supports pupils with their external compulsory training.

Financial and Other Support Available | All of our pupillages are funded. In 2026, our Commercial / Chancery pupil will receive an award of £55,000, comprising a grant of £20,000 paid in the first six and £35,000 guaranteed earnings paid in the second six.
During the first six months, pupils will be reimbursed in full the cost of any travel outside of London / Manchester as applicable for the purposes of Pupillage, in accordance with our Travel Expenses Policy. Pupils do not pay Chambers’ expenses nor Chambers’ rent. Chambers pays 12-month pupils’ expenses for compulsory courses.
In addition, Chambers will guarantee that its Commercial / Chancery pupil, should they be granted tenancy, earns at least £120,000 in total during their first two years of practice as a tenant.
