2 pupillages to begin April 2026
1 pupillage to being October 2026
3TG Barristers is a leading crime set which has developed a first-class reputation for providing high quality advocacy and excellent advice. Our barristers are well accustomed to complex and challenging cases and our criminal law expertise has seen our members appear in many high-profile cases both recent and historic. We are frequently instructed in cases involving homicide, terrorism, complex fraud, drug and firearm conspiracies, sexual offences and all other areas of general crime.
Members also practice additional areas as set out on our website including Extradition, Disciplinary and Regulatory matters. Chambers is ranked in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and partners, recognized both for our barristers and clerking team. Located now at Bridge House, Blackfriars, we are well equipped to deal with the demands of the modern Bar.
We look for a diverse range of qualities in our potential pupils not limited to simply academic ability. We are also looking for evidence of legal experience, advocacy experience, achievements in a variety of areas of work and life, together with a demonstration of realistic insight into, and a genuine passion for, life at the Criminal Bar.
Structure of Pupillage
There is no expectation that Candidates applying to 3TG Barristers will have undertaken a mini-pupillage with us. Our full criteria can be accessed through the links on our website.
Within the 12 months of pupillage, Pupils will be supervised by 3 different supervisors and supported by a Junior Tenant mentor. Pupils can expect to be given a vast range of learning opportunities with each supervisor and all feedback is given in writing to allow you to properly reflect on each experience.
Pupils will complete the Chambers in-house advocacy training programme in the first six months which will follow the progression of a single case from its first appearance to its conclusion. Members of Chambers will take on the role of witnesses, the judiciary and trainers throughout this course.
Pupils are invited to apply for the tenancy shortly before the successful conclusion of their 12 months of pupillage.
Financial and Other Support Available
Our award is £28000 (£14000 guaranteed income in the first six and £14000 guaranteed earnings in the second six). Pupils are generally expected to earn in excess of their guaranteed earnings in 2nd six.
We also pay all travel expenses for pupils travelling to Court outside of TFL zone 6, membership to the CBA and access to training materials for the ethics exam. Pupils do not pay clerks fees, or any Chambers rent.
Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Chambers prides itself on inclusivity and robust Equality and Diversity policies. Our only mandatory criterion for Candidates is that they have completed a degree or degree equivalent regardless of when or where it was completed. We encourage applications from any Candidate who is determined to succeed at the Criminal Bar regardless of their background.
The criteria we use, and the marking scheme applied for both the application forms and subsequent interviews are published on our website. We aim to provide transparency at all stages of the recruitment process.
We aim to be as flexible as possible in the interview process and offer a number of video interview slots for the first round. Please direct any questions regarding accessibility towards the Pupillage Secretary - Siobhan Cawkwell, src@3tg.co.uk.
