There have been barristers practising from Albion Chambers since 1843. Chambers is led by Richard English and has 71 barristers including two King’s Counsel. There are five door tenants, three of whom are King’s Counsel. Situated in the centres of Bristol and Taunton, Albion Chambers is very close to all local courts.

Albion Chambers, ‘the go-to set for the full range of family work’ (Chambers and Partners). Our thirty-three strong team includes two King’s Counsel and is led by Libby Harris. Team members cover all areas of public child law and legally aided work.
They have a wealth of specialist experience in care proceedings and related matters (representing children, parents, local authorities and other parties); many members of the team have experience in the most serious cases, including infant deaths and alleged head injuries and serious sexual abuse and in care cases with an international element.
Structure of Pupillage
Our twelve month Public Child Law pupillage consists of two six month stages. The first six will be a non-practising period spent shadowing your pupil supervisor on a daily basis. Your second six will be a practising period, under the supervision of your supervisor.
Financial and Other Support Available
Our pupillage award is £40,000. This includes £20,000 across the first 6 months, paid in 6 equal monthly instalments; some of this award, on request may be paid upfront to assist with relocation, and then guaranteed earnings of £20,000 across the second 6 months. Travel expenses relating to your first 6 months of pupillage will also be covered.

How to Apply
Aspiring barristers are invited to apply to chambers between Thursday 2 January 2025 and Thursday 6 February 2025 using the Pupillage Gateway application system to search for the relevant Pupillage Vacancy and selecting ‘Apply for this pupillage’.
In addition to the standardised Bar Council questionnaire, candidates will be asked to respond to the following questions from Chambers:
- Why do you believe you will make a good barrister? (2,000 character limit)
- Please identify any additional experiences/skills gained that you believe may help you in your career? (2,000 character limit)
- Give reasons for your choice of chambers? (2,000 character limit)
- Can you explain what specifically interests you in Public Child Law? (2,000 character limit)
