Pupillage Vacancy Information
Atlantic Chambers is a leading set on the Northern Circuit based in Liverpool. We only recruit pupils with a view to tenancy and hope that all our pupils will be valued members of chambers for many years to come.
We invest a lot of time and effort to ensure that all our pupils have a thorough grounding and are well prepared for tenancy. Each pupil has a designated supervisor who they will work with closely throughout the year as a mentor. In addition, within their field of interest we try to ensure that pupils get to spend time with a broad selection of barristers across Chambers. Our strength in depth means that you will be in court regularly and ought to experience a wide variety of work at every level. You will have ample opportunity to get to know other members of chambers and develop a strong support network.
You will also be expected to prepare advices, statements of case and other paperwork throughout your pupillage with feedback from your pupillage supervisor and other members of chambers to ensure that you are comfortable working independently.
Ultimately, Atlantic Chambers strives to ensure that every pupillage provides solid foundations for those interested in building a long and successful career at the Bar. We are proud of our history including distinguished past members such as the current Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales, Lord Justice Edis, and the recent past President of the Queen's Bench Division, Sir Brian Leveson. However, we look forward to recruiting the next generation of talent who are keen to join a friendly, supportive and ambitious chambers.
Chambers presently offers an award of £12,000 per Pupil for the first six months and guarantees receipts of a further £18,000 in the second six months. This guarantee operates on a month-by-month basis, so that in any single month where gross receipts are less than £3,000 the balance is made up by Chambers. There is no “clawback” if receipts in other months exceed £3,000.
There are no ‘buy in’ provisions upon taking tenancy and based on past experience all junior tenants can expect to earn comfortably more than £60,000 per annum on average in the first 3 years of practice.
Atlantic Chambers is firmly committed to the active promotion of equality and diversity and equal opportunities. Atlantic Chambers recognises that such a commitment requires taking positive steps to identify and eliminate possible areas of discrimination so as to afford:
• Equality of access to all applicants for mini-pupillage, pupillage, tenancy or employment
• Equality of treatment to all Members, pupils and staff
• Equality of service to professional clients covering both the planning of services and the decision whether to accepts instructions or offer advice Chambers understands that if Chambers (and more widely, the Bar) is to thrive, it needs to select the very best from the widest possible pool
