Pupillage Vacancy Information
About Authorised Education and Training Organisation and Structure of Pupillage
Castle Gate Chambers was established in 2020 and is a boutique set of talented criminal practitioners, collectively committed to developing and enhancing the East Midlands Bar.
Chambers is made up of three Silks and 22 junior tenants all of whom are supported by a dedicated clerking team headed by our senior clerk. Chambers is proud to feature in the Legal 500.
Members of Castle Gate Chambers appear in court centres across the East Midlands and, on occasion, further afield.
We are down to earth, friendly, and are keen to recruit organically to ensure that we attract the best candidates who are most likely to thrive within our set, which prides itself on being communal and supportive.
Pupillages at Castle Gate Chambers are offered for 12 months with a view to tenancy.
Castle Gate Chambers are looking to recruit two pupils to begin pupillage in September 2025.
Pupils will have at least one designated Pupil Supervisor throughout their pupillage and will have the opportunity to observe and undertake a range of work.
Applications are welcomed from enthusiastic and talented candidates with a passion for criminal law and a desire to practice on the Midland Circuit.
A pupillage award will be paid to pupils in line with the minimum award set by the Bar Standards Board. Pupils will receive their award on a monthly basis as a grant during the first six months and as guaranteed earnings during the second six months.
Chambers will adhere to the timetable set by the Pupillage Gateway.
Those candidates selected for interview should be available for first round interviews in March 2025 (likely to be held on either the 22nd or 29th of that month). Second round interviews will take place in April 2025.
Financial and Other Support Available
Castle Gate Chambers will meet the costs of any mandatory courses during pupillage. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed at the discretion of the senior clerk and the treasurer.
Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Castle Gate Chambers welcomes applications from talented candidates regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexuality, health, disability, family background or other personal circumstances. Chambers strives to widen access to the Bar thereby increasing diversity.
