Pupillage Vacancy Information
About Authorised Education and Training Organisation
Chartlands Chambers is proud to be the longest established Barristers’ Chambers in Northampton, serving the local and national community since 1995. Members and staff have experience and expertise at the forefront of their practice, which they combine with a friendly and helpful approach to clients.
Structure of Pupillage
Pupils on arrival will be given an induction by the Pupil Supervisor, introducing them to the necessary policies and procedures. They will also spend time discussing the following points:
- The pupillage training program and how this will provide the Pupil with the opportunity to satisfy each of the professional competencies as set out in the BSB’s Professional Statement, to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and attributes that all Barristers require on ‘day one’ of practice.
- The Pupil will spend the first six months with their Pupil Supervisor/s and other members of chambers. The main features of a Pupillage at Chartlands are frequent visits to courts, sitting in on conferences, legal research, and preparing talks and seminars. Pupils also draft statements of case, case summaries, skeleton arguments, and may be required to take noting briefs.
- The Pupil Supervisor/s to provide regular feedback to their Pupils. The Pupillage Supervisor will complete a Pupil Supervision Review Form against the competencies contained within the Professional Statement and discuss any observations made with the Pupil, ensuring they are on track with the required standards.
