Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Our pupils come from all walks of life and different backgrounds which compliments Chambers’ very diverse and unique community. When recruiting we don’t have a preferred university but we usually look for candidates who have achieved an upper second class degree classification or above. We will consider applications from those with a 2:2 if there are other exceptional features, including subsequent relevant experience. We assess candidates on paper against a set marking criteria which helps us identify the outstanding candidates to invite to interview.
We take a fresh approach to reducing hiring bias by eliminating key data from resumés and assign each candidate a number and refer to candidates by that number until they are brought in for interview.
How to Apply
We ask candidates to apply by emailing their application form and equal opportunities form to Chambers directly. The address and forms can be found on our website www.cornwallstreet.co.uk/pupillage where full details can also be found.
About AETO and Structure of Pupillage
A leading set of Barristers’ Chambers with offices in Birmingham, Oxford, Maidstone and London but with Members who live and work nationally.
A modern, forward-thinking and dynamic set providing the highest standards of representation and advice for 50 years.
We want to attract candidates who have a good academic record, strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work hard and can demonstrate their commitment to a career at the Bar and with Cornwall Street Barristers. We offer 12-month common law pupillages, tailored to your future career aspirations.
Although we are offering common law pupillage, our principle area of practice in Oxford is Crime therefore it is expected the pupil will practice more in Crime than in the other areas in which Chambers practices for the first few years.
Any Other Relevant Information
The great thing about us is that you get to experience life in Chambers before you officially start pupillage! Your pupillage supervisor will be in touch to introduce themselves and to discuss the structure of your pupillage with you. You will also be invited to events over the course of the summer, which gives you the opportunity to meet many members of chambers and our instructing solicitors even before you start.
