Crown Office Chambers is a leading civil and commercial set with over 100 members of whom are highly rated KCs. We pride ourselves on our depth of expertise across a broad range of common law and commercial practice areas, including construction, commercial litigation, professional negligence, property damage, insurance and reinsurance, clinical negligence, health and safety regulatory work, inquests and public inquiries.
 
Pupils will have the opportunity to learn from and work with distinguished counsel across a range of different practice areas, in a modern and friendly setting. During Second Six, pupils will receive regular instructions in your own right throughout that period. 
Pupils are welcomed as an integral part of Chambers life from the moment they arrive. We look for outstanding law and non-law candidates, as well as a flair for the oral and written presentation of complex legal arguments. 
 
 
Financial and Other Support Available
We offer up to three pupillages annually, each with an award of £90,000 comprising £75,000 plus guaranteed earnings of £15,000 in your second Six.  A drawdown of up to £20,000 from the pupillage award is available in advance.

Aspiring barristers are invited to apply to chambers between 3 January 2024 and 7 February 2024 using the Pupillage Gateway application system to search for the relevant Pupillage Vacancy and selecting ‘Apply for this pupillage’.
In addition to the standardised Bar Council questionnaire, candidates will be asked to respond to the following questions from Chambers:
 
  1. Why do you wish to become a barrister? (175 words)
  2. Please identify any relevant experiences or skills that evidence your ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.  (175 words) 
  3. Please identify any other relevant experiences or skills that you believe may help you in your career at the Bar.  (175 words) 
  4. Please set out your exam results from tertiary education (undergraduate degree level, and above if applicable). This should include the marks you achieved in each paper or module. If you studied outside the UK, please explain the marking system applied to your exam results.  (175 words)
  5. What areas of legal practice are of most interest to you, and why?  (175 words) 
  6. Why do you wish to practise at Crown Office Chambers?  (175 words)
  7. Please identify a decided case within one of Crown Office Chambers’ practice areas from the past twelve months that you find interesting and explain why.  (175 words)
