Erskine Chambers – 12 Months – October 2026

Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation
Erskine Chambers is the leading company law set, with a strong presence in the related fields of insolvency, financial services, and commercial litigation. Our barristers appear in or advise on the most significant cases and transactions in the UK and offshore.

We are a small, friendly set, with 11 silks and 18 juniors.

Structure of Pupillage
We offer up to two pupillages per year.

We aim to offer pupillage to candidates we consider have a realistic prospect of tenancy at the end of their pupillage. Pupils do not compete with one another for limited tenancies. We hope that all our pupils will become tenants in due course.

Pupils sit with four different supervisors in three-month blocks during the year.

Pupils do not undertake their own work or appear in court during their pupillage, but will have an opportunity to assist members of chambers on live cases throughout their pupillage.

The pupillage includes two advocacy exercises: a non-assessed exercise on which detailed feedback is provided, and an assessed advocacy exercise.

Financial and Other Support Available

We offer a pupillage award of £80,000, split into a scholarship of £45,000 for the first six and £35,000 for the second six. Up to £20,000 of the award for the first six months can be drawn down prior to commencing pupillage.

Erskine Chambers will cover the cost of any compulsory courses undertaken during pupillage, and offers a generous rent and expense-free period to support junior tenants as they start in practice.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Erskine Chambers seeks to recruit and train the best candidates from the widest possible pool, and to enable our members to develop successful careers.

We have a full suite of policies to support these objectives, which we keep continually under review.

For any accessibility concerns relating to pupillage, please contact the Pupillage Secretary, Matthew Parfitt (mparfitt@erskinechambers.com).
