Equality Diversity and Inclusion
At Exchange Chambers we are committed to promoting equal opportunities for all, including members, pupils, employees and applicants to Chambers. We do not discriminate against anyone on the grounds of race, colour nationality, ethnic or national origins, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, gender reassignment, disability, age, religion or belief or indeed, on any other ground. That said we are alive to the risk of institutional bias and are committed to learning how to identify and eradicate areas in which there may be a risk of that occurring. We welcome and encourage any suggestions which may help us on our learning journey.
This principle extends to our recruitment practices, the treatment of members, pupils and staff in chambers and the service we provide to our clients.
Chambers is aware of the challenges facing young people wishing to pursue a career in law. As a Chambers we are committed to supporting fair access to the Bar and aim to encourage aspiring barristers from a diverse range of backgrounds.
How to Apply
We are offering pupillages in the following areas:
- Business and Property
- Family
- Common Law
- Crime
Application is via our website www.exchangechambers.co.uk
We split our pupillage intake between a September start and a March start. That means we need to advertise two separate competitions. However, applicants only need to apply in one competition (September 2024 or March 2025) and their applications will be entered automatically into both competitions, unless they specify otherwise.
About AETO and Structure of Pupillage
We believe that our approach to pupillage is unique and we invest a lot of time and money in the process. Our strength in depth means that you will experience a wide variety of work from the outset, and work with barristers who are leaders in their field. Pupils and junior barristers are in court virtually every day. You have the ability to build your own practice and develop your advocacy from an early stage.
Pupils can expect :
- Each pupil is allocated a pupil supervisor, but will also have the opportunity to experience other work outside of their supervisor’s practice.
- Attend hearings in court with their pupil supervisor
- Attend conferences with solicitors and lay clients
- Assist their pupil supervisor in the drafting of documents including advices and pleadings, as well as drafting skeleton arguments for hearings.
- Receive regular feedback from their pupil supervisor
Participate in social and charity events.
