Chambers are pleased to be able to offer the following pupillages:

•    Up to 1 12-month pupillage in criminal law commencing October 2026;

Fenners Chambers is a warm and welcoming set based in Cambridge. It has a strong reputation for advocacy across many jurisdictions. 


Structure of Pupillage 

Our criminal law pupillage is structured in two halves. Pupils will have one formal Pupil Supervisor throughout their pupillage. However, our criminal law pupils have the opportunity to spend time with all members of the crime team. The second six months of pupillage will entail pupils receiving their own briefs to attend court, whilst continuing their training alongside their Pupil Supervisor and other Members of Chambers.


Financial and Other Support Available 

A grant of £15,000 plus £8,504 in guaranteed earnings.  In addition, Chambers pays travel expenses and for the costs of compulsory courses during pupillage.

How to Apply

Aspiring barristers are invited to apply to chambers between 5 January 2026 and 22 January 2026 using the Pupillage Gateway application system to search for the relevant Pupillage Vacancy and selecting 'Apply for this pupillage'.In addition to the standardised Bar Council questionnaire, candidates will be asked to respond to the following questions from Chambers:

1.    Why do you want to join our chambers? In your answer, please explain what draws you to a regional practice? (1000 character limit) 

2.    Please identify any oral advocacy experience, relevant experience within the criminal justice system, work experience/mini-pupillages, or any other experience you have which you consider relevant to being a criminal advocate. (1000 character limit) 

3.    Thinking in terms of being a criminal and jury trial advocate, what qualities and/or skills do you believe you possess as an individual that would make you an outstanding one at Fenners Chambers? (1000 character limit) 

4.    If you could change one law, procedure or aspect of the criminal justice system, what would it be and why? (1000 character limit) 

5.    Give an example of where you made a mistake or error of judgement and explain how you overcame it and what you learnt from it? (1000 character limit) 

6.    If applicable, please tell us anything else you would like us to know about you of relevance to your application for pupillage. (1000 character limit)
