Gough Square Chambers - 12 Months - October 2026

Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation

Gough Square Chambers specialises in all aspects of consumer law. This is a diverse field that encompasses almost any interaction between retail businesses and the public and it is difficult to exaggerate the scope and day-to-day impact of consumer law.

Chambers has long been considered the country’s leading set in consumer law and is ranked as the sole top tier set for consumer law by both Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. Chambers is also ranked as a leading set in financial services and banking.

Structure of Pupillage

Pupils in Chambers see the full spectrum of consumer law, from technical consumer finance and banking cases to criminal trading standards jury trials. Pupils will ordinarily have between 2 and 3 pupil supervisors over the course of the pupillage and will have plenty of opportunity to get on their feet and begin building a practice in second six. A number of assessments and training sessions will be held during the course of the pupillage with a specific focus on ensuring pupils are ready to hit the ground running on day one of second six.

Once in tenancy, members have the option of focussing on their preferred areas.

Financial and Other Support Available
Up to £20,000 of the Grant may be drawn down early, upon prior agreement with Chambers. Chambers will be flexible and will consider any request for part of the pupillage to be conducted remotely. If further support is required, please let Chambers know and all reasonable attempts will be made to accommodate this.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion

As a result of Gough Square's relatively small size, it does not have a formalised individual outreach process but encourages accessibility, equality and diversity by supporting existing programmes organised by others, in particular the Inns of Court.

Chambers has taken part in outreach events organised by the Inns and has provided experience to students through the Bar Placement Scheme.

Chambers also encourages members to get involved with other Inn led activity and a number of members do so, attending Inn welcome evenings as well as taking part in Inn mentoring schemes, Inn application and interview workshops and scholarship interviewing.
