Pupillage Vacancy Information
For the year of 2025 there are up to three 12-month pupillages on offer.
Lloyds PR Solicitors predominantly work in criminal defence, having built an excellent reputation in the field, and working on high profile cases throughout England and Wales.
Lloyds PR Solicitors has a dedicated advocacy team led by two experienced barristers who are pupil supervisors. The advocacy team are often based in our Baker Street office at 83 Baker Street, but sometimes work from the Harlesden office which is the firm’s main office. We also have offices in Watford and Borehamwood in Hertfordshire where on occasion conferences may be held.
The pupillage focuses not only on excellence in advocacy, but on being an excellent lawyer, and will cover the following areas:
- Legal Knowledge
- Analytical skills
- Working with experts
- Client care
- Ethics
- Advocacy
- Case preparation
- As well as crime, there is likely to be an element of regulatory work included in the pupillage, although crime is the main focus.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong academic background (lower second class degree or higher)
- Excellent legal knowledge
- Commitment to working as a team

- Excellent communication Skills
- Excellent client care skills
- Excellent advocacy skills (demonstrated through previous work or positions held, such as mooting or debating competitions)
- A solid commitment and interest in criminal defence, perhaps demonstrated by previous work or work experience such as mini pupillages
Lloyds PR Solicitors offer up to three 12-month pupillages. Upon successful completion of the 12-month pupillage, pupils are invited to apply for the position of being an employed barrister with the firm. Pupillage may also be terminated at the end of the 12-month period by either the pupil or the firm.
Pupils will enjoy the benefit of two pupil supervisors during the pupillage. They shall work predominantly in London and Hertfordshire, however the needs of the work may require, on occasion, travel to any court house, prison or other establishment within England and Wales.
In addition, the pupil will be exposed to the breadth of experience of our solicitors, who have combined experiences of dealing with some of the most complicated and serious cases in the country.
During the first six months the pupil shall train alongside the pupil supervisors, preparing cases, learning how to analyse cases and comply with their ethical duties within real-life cases. They shall also observe their pupil supervisor in court and undertake in house advocacy training with the firms trainee and junior solicitors. Some advocacy training arranged by the firm is provided by Kings Counsel from external chambers.
During the second six months of the pupillage, the pupil shall conduct advocacy at court and can expect to be in the magistrates court most days, and the crown court on some occasions. Although the pupil will start to develop their own practice, they shall work closely with their supervisor as well on larger cases.

The pupil will be trained in the policies of the firm during their induction period at the beginning of the pupillage and those policies shall apply equally to all members of the firm, including the pupil.
In addition, our pupillage training programme should be read in conjunction with the written office policies which is an internal document available to all members of the firm.

Prerequisites Before Applying
- Be allowed to legally work in the United Kingdom.
- Have completed or be scheduled to complete either a law degree (2:2 or higher) or any other degree (2:2 or higher) in combination with the GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law - law conversion course for those who have completed a non-law undergraduate degree); AND
- Be scheduled to complete, prior to commencement of pupillage, the BPTC (Bar Professional Training Course) or another England and Wales bar qualification (e.g. Bar Transfer Test).
- The successful applicant will be required to produce to the firm’s satisfaction, documentary evidence of the following before commencement of pupillage:
- That the academic and vocational training components have been satisfactorily completed within the 5 year limit.
- That the pupil is a member of an Inn.
- That the pupil has been Called to the Bar.
- Immigration visas have been obtained, where relevant.
- Waivers have been granted by the BSB, where relevant.
- The successful applicant is asked to complete a DBS check which the firm shall pay for. Refusal to complete a DBS check is likely to result in the offer of pupillage being withdrawn. The firm can accept a previously completed DBS check which is dated within the last 12 months.
