Park Square Barristers – 12 months – September 2025

Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation
Park Square Barristers is the largest multi-disciplinary set on the North Eastern Circuit. Based in the heart of the legal quarter of Leeds, Park Square Barristers has changed the face of advocacy in the North East and we have now strengthened our set even further with new offices in Middlesbrough and Newcastle. From our client-focused home on Park Square, we offer the highest standards of advice, representation, mediation, and legal training across the fields of civil law, criminal law, family law and regulatory & public law. We have over 180 members and 12 silks.

Structure of Pupillage
Park Square Barristers prides itself on the high-quality training, support and guidance offered to all pupils to ensure that they have the best possible start in their careers at the bar. Pupillage is offered with a view to tenancy.

We are recruiting five pupils across 2025 and 2026. One of those pupillages will focus on Commercial and Chancery work. The other four pupillages will be common law pupillages which will be flexible, to fit with the practice preferences of the selected candidates.
Candidates will be supported by up to two pupil supervisors in their preferred practice areas. In the first six pupils will carry out research, draft opinions and other documents for court, read and prepare cases with their supervisor and attend court daily with their supervisor.

During the second six months pupils can expect to be in court most days, undertaking their own court work whilst under supervision. For more information, see our website:

Pupillage start dates:
September 2025 / February 2026 / September 2026.

Locations:
Leeds (LS1 2LW) and Teesside (TS1 2BF), United Kingdom.

Financial and Other Support Available
The pupillage award for those recruited in the 2025 competition will be £27,000. This consists of £12,000 pupillage grant in the first six and £15,000 guaranteed income in the second six months, although in our experience pupils’ receipts far exceed this in their second six months, whichever practice area(s) they choose.

Pupils are supported by the Director of Pupillage, a mentor who is a recent pupil or junior tenant and a supportive and sociable junior tenant cohort.

We also have a wellbeing committee, mentors, book club, choir, regular social events and engage in sporting activities run by Chambers and the North Eastern Circuit.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Members of Park Square Barristers are part of the North Eastern Circuit’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and we are actively engaged in equality, diversity and inclusivity initiatives and encourage our pupils to engage with any events.

The Head of Equality and Diversity is Lisa Phillips who can be contacted via lisaphillips@psqb.co.uk and the Head of Pupillage is Emily Reed, who can be contacted via reed@psqb.co.uk
