Pupillage Vacancy Information

During the first six months of pupillage a grant of £15,000 is made to all pupils and during the second six months there is an earnings guarantee of £25,000.

We are recruiting pupils in line with the Pupillage Gateway timetable for 2022/23 to commence pupillage in October 2023.

To apply, please complete the online application form using the Pupillage Gateway application system to search for the relevant Pupillage Vacancy and selecting ‘Apply for this pupillage’. The online application will be available between Wednesday, 4th January 2023 and Wednesday, 8th February 2023.  Chambers intends to hold first round interviews on 24th March 2023 and second round interviews on 27th and 28th April 2023. 

In addition to the standardised Bar Council questionnaire, candidates will be asked to respond to the following questions from Chambers:

1.  What is it about being a barrister that most appeals to you and what reservations do you have about the profession? (max 600 characters)

2.  Persuade us to have confidence in your ability to thrive in this changing environment.  (max 600 characters)

3.  Which practice area(s) are you drawn to and why?  (max 600 characters)

Application details:

We interview both law and non-law graduates and look for:

  • intellectual and analytical ability;
  • written communication and advocacy;
  • oral communication and advocacy;
  • understanding of the law and legal practice;
  • demonstration of attributes required to support a successful career at the Bar.

We expect applicants to have a 2:1 degree classification, however we will consider applicants who do not meet this criterion in extenuating circumstances and/or where exceptional qualities are present and where comparable knowledge and potential is demonstrated in the application and at interview.  This is provided that the qualifications and experience will meet the requirements of the Academic Component of Bar training.

Specifically, we are offering up to 12 pupillages across our four sites. 

Pupils will have the opportunity to focus on each of our areas of expertise.
