About Authorised Education and Training Organisation and Structure of Pupillage
The AETO is a BSB entity that operates a chambers and an entity that operates similar to a traditional firm. The Pupil will be able to benefit from being supervised by their Pupil Master that would sit across a number of different areas of law including but not limited to: Civil Litigation, Immigration/Human Rights, Family and Insolvency Matters.
The Pupil would begin their pupillage merely shadowing their Pupil Master when conducting hearings, meetings with lay and professional clients and reading papers for upcoming hearings.
The Pupil would then, following a bi-monthly review, be able to assist in research, drafting of pleadings/skeleton arguments and opinions to ensure that they would be able to progress to their second six.
By the time the second six has come, the Pupil would be expected to have a general preferred practice area so that they can hone their skills in line with the Framework criteria of competency and practice management. They should also be able to undertake work more independently. They would have their work completely supervised but be expected to carry out their work to the required standard without excessive assistance by the Pupil Master. Once again, their work would be reviewed on a bi-monthly basis.
A decision will then be made at the end of the second six as to whether the Pupil Master would sign off the Pupil in respect of
the framework requirements and to offer that Pupil a tenancy or refer them for a third six.
Throughout the entirety of their Pupillage, the Pupil will also benefit from regular advocacy experiences and being able to shadow solicitors in the entity
Financial and Other Support Available
The Pupillage Award that has already been offered along with the Chambers providing a laptop if needed. The Pupil will also have access to software subscriptions to office and WestLaw.
The Pupil would also benefit from getting financial advice from Chartered Accountants and financial advisors. They would also have regular meetings with other professional members of the Chambers including consultant solicitors, in house solicitors, other Members to assist with career progression advice.
