3DJB – 12 Months – October 2025

Pupillage Vacancy Information

3|DJB

3DJB is a specialist set of Family Law barristers. Members of chambers are recognised in the leading legal directories and have particular specialisms in children (public and private law)  and financial remedy proceedings.

At 3DJB we are passionate about making pupillage work for each of our pupils and turning them into the strongest advocates they can be. We have a genuine open-door policy and pupils will find that members of chambers are very approachable, supportive and always willing to assist.

Structure of Pupillage

3DJB are looking to recruit a pupil who will undertake a family pupillage with some opportunity to observe civil work if they wish.

Pupils at 3DJB each have three supervisors specialising in family law during their 12 month pupillage with a civil co-supervisor during their final four months if they wish to explore civil work.

Financial and Other Support Available

The Pupillage award is £43,000 comprising:

  • £18,000  tax-free during the first six.
  • Guaranteed second six earnings of £25,000. As a guide, all 3DJB pupils in recent years have billed more than £30,000 in second six.

We also offer:

  • First six travel expenses (for courts beyond London) worth at least £1,000
  • Training package: Online "Welcome to the Bar" training via Briefed which includes

GDPR Certification for Barristers, Cyber Security training, Anti-Racism training and Strategic Networking training.

  • Paid-for attendance at networking events.
  • FLBA membership fee.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is central to practice at 3DJB. Chambers invests in its pupils and wants to make sure that they are supported to have satisfying and sustainable careers at the bar.

We provide additional preparation time for advocacy training, as well as providing in-house advocacy training and mentoring.

Tenancy

3DJB pupillages are always offered with a view to tenancy.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion

Previous Pupil’s experiences

Pupillage at 3DJB was comprehensive, educational, and supportive. I had the opportunity to shadow experts in Family Law throughout my first-six and received robust training in preparation for my second six. I was given detailed feedback in relation to the written tasks that were assigned to me as well as any advocacy I had undertaken within Chambers. I was also grateful for the opportunity to gain some insight into TOLATA and Civil Law

During my second six, I was extremely busy and in court on most days. Happily, I remained supported throughout and could reach out to any member of Chambers for guidance, if I felt in need of it. 3DJB have created a truly unique environment that is collegiate and encouraging, which gave me the confidence to challenge myself during my second-six.”

 Pupil 2023

“Pupillage with 3DJB has been a wonderful experience from start to finish, largely owing to the supportive 'open door' policy of chambers.

No two days are the same. For instance, during first six, I observed cases with junior members who dealt with straightforward cases before Magistrates through to complex international matters with more senior colleagues at the Supreme Court. In second six, I have been in court quite a lot and am pleased to be doing such a broad range of work and exceeding my guaranteed earnings along the way!

If anyone is thinking about applying to 3DJB then my advice is to do so without hesitation.”
