Guernica 37 Chambers – 12 Months – October 2025

Pupillage Vacancy Information

About Authorised Education and Training Organisation and Structure of Pupillage

Established in 2016, Guernica 37 Chambers is a specialised Barristers' Chambers that brings together Barristers and international attorneys with expertise in international law.
Members of Chambers have been at the forefront of some of the most important developments in international law and accountability over recent years. Current instructions include high-profile cases and investigations before domestic courts in England and Wales, specialised tribunals (such as the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague), regional human rights courts and institutions (such as the European Court of Human Rights) and international courts (such as the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice in The Hague).
Candidates should be highly motivated, with a strong work ethic. They will need to be able to demonstrate that they have the necessary intellectual and analytical skills to be able to process and advise on complex and often novel legal issues across a variety of practice areas, and across a number of different jurisdictions.
In their first six, successful applicants may expect to be involved in all types of international and domestic matters, depending on the work being undertaken by their pupil supervisor and other Guernica 37 Members.
In their second six, in addition to the continued work on international matters, successful applicants will be expected to attend court to represent clients in a variety of matters, primarily in crime and extradition.
Given Chambers’ expanding international arbitration and tax work, applications from candidates with experience in this area of work, particularly those fluent in Spanish as their first or second language, are welcome.

Financial and Other Support Available

Finance so offered is intended to cover all additional expenses incurred during pupillage, save for travel or accommodation outside Zones 1 – 6, in the first six months, but Chambers will in addition reimburse the incurred fees of all compulsory pupillage courses.
In the first six months, reasonable and necessary travel or accommodation expenses incurred for the purposes of pupillage outside Zones 1 – 6, are also reimbursable on the presumption that the least expensive travel is used, which still permits the pupil to attend where and when required or due to do so.
In the second six months (practising period) if travel expenses are incurred by the pupil in servicing their own work, then these travel expenses can be reclaimed when the work is billed. If, however, during second six months, travel expenses are incurred by the pupil shadowing other members of Chambers – and the travel is outside Zones 1 – 6, then Chambers will reimburse such expenses.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion

Chambers has a dedicated ED&I Officer, Mr. Omar Soliman, who is always available to assist with any enquiries that arise during pupillage.
